Any.do offers various types of notifications including task reminders, event alerts, sharing-updates and daily planning notifications. These notifications are available across all platforms, including mobile (Android and iOS) and desktop (Web, Windows, and Mac), providing flexibility and consistency in your scheduling and productivity efforts.
To receive reminders and notifications for various activities, users must provide device permissions so the app can send notifications properly. If needed, notifications can be disabled entirely, and specific notifications can be turned off directly within the app. This flexibility allows users to manage their notifications according to their preferences, ensuring they only receive alerts that are important to them.
π General Notification Settings
App notifications can be easily enabled or disabled from your device settings or directly from the app (depending on the platform. Notification-sounds can also be customized per the details below.
π’ Enabling app-notifications
Usually, users will be prompted to enable notification-permissions as soon as installing the app. However, if the user dismissed that screen without enabling or chosen to disable the permissions in the past, then in order to receive Any.do's notifications they will need to enable them directly from their mobile device settings.
On Web/Desktop, notifications can be enabled straight from the app itself:
π΅ Changing notification-sounds
At this time, Any.do allows users to customize the notifications-sounds of the reminder feature only. With any personal or board task that was set up with a reminder, users will get a sound reminder on their mobile device.
Users can opt to change this setting as needed:
Note: On web/desktop the sound of the reminder will be determined by your operating system (some will not have a sound at all).
π Disabling app-notifications
If you no longer wish to receive any type of notification from Any.do, you can opt to disable the notification-permissions. Be advised though that this will completely disable the app from sending any type of notifications for all app activities, including reminders and sharing-updates.
π‘ Note: If you simply wish to disable a specific notification-type, please check out the next section for feature-specific notifications.
π Feature-specific notifications
Any.do's notifications are usually linked to specific features (other than general updates such as sharing-notifications and similar). If you wish to avoid a specific notification without disabling all notifications at once, we recommend checking the options below.
π To disable task-reminders
Each reminder set via the app (whether automatically or by the user), will have a sound notifications as well as push notification shown at the due time (on Android, users can also get the pop-up reminder).
If you do not wish to receive a reminder at the task's due date, you may simply opt to toggle-off this option:
π‘ Note: Looking to add tasks without reminders at all? Simply use the quick-add input button to choose 'someday' (instead of adding a specific due date) and the task will be added without a reminder.
π¬ To enable/disable the Android pop up
Android users are able to receive a pop-up with their reminders that will show on top of other apps. Without this permission, the pop-up will only show when tapping on a reminder notification. Each user is welcome to change their settings according to their preferred reminders-display.
Settings are available for Android 10+ and may vary slightly, depending on device type:
Go to your device Settings - Apps and locate Any.do.
Under Permissions, enable Any.do to show on top.
To stop seeing the pop up upon receiving a reminder, disable the 'on top' permission. You will still be able to see the pop once you open the notification
Note: Without this permission, the pop-up will only show when tapping on a reminder notification. Settings are available for Android 10+ and may vary slightly, depending on device type.
