Quick Add Bar, Smart Type, and Voice Input in Any.do

Add tasks and events fast by typing or speaking, from anywhere in the app

Updated this week

Most of the time, adding something in Any.do happens in one place: the Quick Add bar. From that same bar, you can:

  • Type normally to add an item

  • Use Smart Type (optional) to let Any.do recognize dates and times you type

  • Use Voice Input (mobile only) to speak your task instead of typing

Smart Type understands everyday phrases you type in the Quick Add bar, like “tomorrow 9am”, and helps add the date and time for you. Prefer not to use it? No problem - you can still schedule items using the preset options on mobile or the date/reminder buttons on Web/Desktop within the quick add bar. Looking for a hands free experience? Try our voice input!

👥 Who can use this?

🙋‍♂️ FAQs

🧭 Where is the Quick Add bar?

You will see the Quick Add bar in your main task views (lists, boards, All Tasks, and Next 7 Days). On iOS and Android, you will also see it in Calendar view for adding events.

🔡 What is Smart Type, and do I have to use it?

Smart Type is optional. It recognizes natural language like “tomorrow 9am” while you type in the Quick Add bar. You can always use presets (mobile) or the icons/buttons (Web/Desktop) instead.

🧷 Why can’t I edit the preset options on mobile?

Preset options are fixed. If you need a specific date or time, use Custom, or type the date/time using Smart Type.

💤 What does Someday do?

Someday creates a task with no date. It is useful for ideas or tasks you want to keep without scheduling yet.

📆 Why does the Quick Add bar add events in Calendar instead of tasks?

Calendar view on mobile is designed for events. The Calendar Quick Add bar creates events only. To add a task, switch to a task view such as a list, All Tasks, or Next 7 Days.

🧹 Why does “tomorrow 9am” stay in the title?

When you use Smart Type, the date/time text can remain in the title even if the date/time was set correctly. If you want a cleaner title, remove the date/time words after saving, or use presets/icons instead.

🌍 Why is Smart Type not recognizing my date/time?

Smart Type time detection supports specific languages only. It currently supports English, French, German, Spanish, Hebrew, Portuguese, Chinese, Italian, Korean, and Arabic. Try simpler phrases like “tomorrow” or “Friday 9am”.

🤔 Why doesn't Smart Type recognize my input properly?

Using multiple numbers in a title can cause recognition issue, which is why we recommend converting numbers to words, unless they are part of the reminder time. If there is a specific input which is not working for you, please contact our support team here.

🎤 I do not see Voice Input. Where is it?

Voice Input uses the mic icon on your device keyboard. Tap the Quick Add bar to open your keyboard, then tap the mic.
