Board Automation helps you reduce manual steps inside a board. You can set simple “when this happens, do that” rules, like moving tasks to a section, assigning an owner, or setting a due date.
If you are new to boards, start here first: Boards and Board Tasks.
✅ Who can use this feature
Plan: Workspace only
Who can create and manage automations: Board admins only
Platform: Web and Desktop only
Other board members can view existing automations, but only board admins can create, edit, or delete them.
🧠 How Board Automation works
Automations are rules that run inside a specific board.
Each automation belongs to one board.
Automations are visible to all members of that board.
You can create as many automations as you need.
Automation activity appears in the board’s Activity feed, so everyone can understand what happened.
🛠️ Create a board automation (Web/Desktop)
Creating an automation is done directly from the board, and it takes only a minute.
Open the relevant board.
Click Automations (next to the ⚡ icon).
Click the empty placeholders in the rule to choose a Trigger and an Action.
Click Save.
If you do not see the automation option in your board, this means that you're not the board admin and therefore have no option to create an automation.
💡 Use suggested automation examples
Suggested examples help you build common workflows faster, and you can always adjust them to your needs.
Open the board and click Automations.
On the right side, choose one of the suggested examples.
Click the + icon to add it.
Click the gray text inside the rule to fill in the missing details.
Click Save.
To hide suggestions, click Hide Examples.
To hide all examples click on "Hide Examples".
✏️ Edit or delete an automation
Board admins can update an automation as a workflow changes, or remove it if it is no longer relevant.
Open the board and click Automations.
Click the automation you want to change.
To edit: update the rule and click Save.
To delete: click the trash icon.
🎛️ Triggers and actions
Every automation is built from two parts: a trigger (what starts the rule) and one or more actions (what happens next).
🎯 Available triggers
Choose one trigger to start the automation.
Moves to: When a task is moved into a specific section
Adds a tag: When a tag is added to a task
Is assigned to: When a task is assigned to a specific member
Is created: When a new task is created
⚙️ Available actions
After the trigger, choose what the automation should do. You can add more than one action to the same trigger.
💡 Note: You can set several actions for one trigger.
Move to: Move the task to a specific section
Assign to: Assign the task to a member
Unassign: Remove a specific assignee, or remove all assignees
Add a tag: Add a tag to the task
Remove tag: Remove a specific tag, or remove all tags
Add due date: Set a due date (same day, next day, in two days, next week, in two weeks, or next month)
Remove due date: Remove the task’s due date
🧯 Troubleshooting: why an automation looks red
If an automation is shown in red, it usually means something in the rule no longer exists. For example, the rule may reference a deleted tag or a section that was archived. Update the rule to choose an existing tag or section, then save again.
