Not Receiving Notifications or Reminders? Quick Fix Guide

Quick checklists to get alerts working again

Updated yesterday

If things have gone quiet, this guide will help you bring notifications back fast. Pick your situation, follow the quick checks, and you should be up and running in minutes.

🔎 Start here (works for everything)

  • Allow notifications in your phone Settings → Apps → Any.do → Notifications (Android) or Settings → Notifications → Any.do (iOS). On Web, enable Desktop Notifications in Any.do and allow them in your browser.

  • Turn off Do Not Disturb/Focus or add Any.do as allowed while Focus is on.

  • Check sound & volume. Pick a reminder sound in the app (mobile). Desktop sounds are OS‑controlled.

  • Time & time zone: set to Automatic in device settings.

  • Battery settings: avoid extreme Battery Saver/Low Power and allow Any.do to run in background.

  • Update the app and make sure you’re signed in on all devices.

  • Internet connection: keep data/Wi‑Fi on for timely delivery.

⏰ Personal reminders not arriving (one‑time or recurring)

  • Open the task → make sure Remind me is On and the time isn’t in the past.

  • Recurring series only advance after you complete the current occurrence. If you don’t mark it Done, the next one won’t be created.

  • Completing multiple times in one day can skip future occurrences (expected).

  • A task can have either a time‑based reminder or a Location reminder. Clear one to switch to the other.

  • On Android, optional on‑top pop‑ups (Display over other apps) show Snooze instantly. On iOS, swipe the notification for Snooze.

Try this: Create “Test reminder in 10 min”, wait for the alert, then Snooze it to confirm delivery.

📍 Location reminders not arriving (mobile only)

  • Permissions: allow Location for Any.do. Use Precise (iOS) or High accuracy/Background location (Android) when available.

  • Battery optimization: exclude Any.do if your device restricts background activity.

  • Arrive vs Leave: start outside the area to test Arrive; step fully away to test Leave.

  • A task can’t have both Location and time reminders. Clear the time reminder, then add Location.

  • Saved place accuracy: pick the exact pin/address if the area is large.

Tip: Keep data on. Limited connectivity can delay push delivery.

🗓️ Board reminders & mentions not arriving (Family/Workspace)

  • Make sure the task has a due date + time and a reminder.

  • You’ll get push updates when you’re assigned or mentioned. Ask teammates to assign or @mention you.

  • Space Reminders (admin‑controlled on Web/Desktop) can auto‑add reminders at the due time for board tasks.

  • Check the 📣 Notifications Center (in‑app) to review updates and take quick actions.

  • On mobile/desktop, confirm Any.do notifications are allowed in system settings.

Email instead? Set per‑board email alerts on Web/Desktop for instant, daily (09:00), or weekly digests. See 📣 Notifications Center & Email Alerts

✉️ Not receiving board email alerts (Workspace)

  • On Web/Desktop → open a board → Board Notifications → choose triggers and Instant/Daily/WeeklySave.

  • Emails go to your Any.do account address (check under Profile). Update your account email if needed.

  • Check Spam/Promotions and make sure you didn’t unsubscribe from Any.do emails.

  • Daily digests arrive at 09:00; weekly at the start of the week.

Note: Email alerts are set per board and are personal (your choices don’t affect others).

🤖 Android brand tips (battery/permissions)

If your device is aggressive about saving power, add Any.do to exceptions and allow background activity:

  • Huawei/EMUI: Settings → Battery (or Battery Manager) → App launch/Protected apps → allow Any.do to run in background; Settings → Apps → Any.do → Notifications → Allow all.

  • OnePlus: Settings → Battery → Battery optimization → Any.do → Don’t optimize; disable Deep/Sleep Standby Optimization; Apps → Any.do → Battery → Allow background activity; Special app access → Display pop‑up while in background → Allow.

  • Oppo/Realme: Settings → Battery manager → Protected apps (whitelist Any.do); Apps → Ignore battery optimizations → Any.do → Ignore; Notification center → Allow + Priority display; lock the app in recent apps.

  • Samsung: Settings → Apps → Any.do → Notifications → Allow; Settings → Apps → Any.do → Battery → Unrestricted; Settings → Apps → Any.do → Storage → Clear cache if needed.

  • Xiaomi/MIUI: Settings → Battery & performance → Manage apps battery usage → Any.do → No restrictions; Permissions → Autostart → On; Notifications → Any.do → Allow all.

  • Vivo/Lenovo/Meizu/Asus/ZTE: Allow Auto‑start, Run in background, and enable Notifications under the device’s security/power manager.

Menu names vary by model and OS version.

🧹 Reset notification permissions (last resort)

  • Android: Settings → Apps → Any.do → Notifications → turn Off, then On. Also check Special app access(Display over other apps, Battery optimization).

  • iOS: Settings → Notifications → Any.do → turn Allow Notifications Off, then On; enable Badges if you want the icon count.

  • Web/Desktop: In Any.do Settings, disable then re‑enable Desktop Notifications; in your browser, remove and re‑add the permission for Any.do.

🕒 Time zone & multiple devices

  • Set Automatic date & time on each device. If devices disagree on time zone, alerts can appear late/early.

  • If you use Any.do on phone + desktop, make sure both show the same time zone in system settings.

💬 WhatsApp reminders not arriving

  • Turn it on: In the Any.do app go to Settings → Integrations → WhatsApp Reminders and make sure it’s On.

  • Keep the chat active: Open your WhatsApp conversation with the Any.do bot every so often (just to view the reminders). If the chat goes inactive, messages may pause until you re‑engage or re‑enable the toggle above.

  • Personal vs Workspace bots: You’ll see two separate chats — one for Personal and one for Workspace/Family. Use the right chat for the reminders you expect.

  • Per‑user only: WhatsApp reminders are sent to you only. You can’t send a WhatsApp reminder to someone else.

  • Shared boards: For board tasks, set reminders in the app. When due, each member who enabled WhatsApp gets the alert to their own bot chat.

  • Recurring personal reminders via WhatsApp: Complete the current occurrence in the app so the next one is created and future WhatsApp alerts continue.

  • Completion limits: Tasks can’t be completed inside WhatsApp. Finish them in the app to keep the flow going.

  • Notifications muted? Check the bot chat isn’t muted in WhatsApp and that your phone isn’t on Do Not Disturb/Focus.

🙋 FAQs

🔁 Why did my recurring reminders stop?

Recurring series only continue after you complete the current occurrence. Mark it Done to create the next one. If you complete multiple times the same day, future ones may be skipped (by design).

📍 Why don’t location reminders fire?

They’re mobile only and need High accuracy location plus background permission. Start outside the area to test Arrive, and ensure Battery Saver isn’t restricting the app.

🔔 I get some push alerts but no sound—why?

Check system volume/mute and pick a sound in Any.do mobile settings. Desktop sounds are controlled by the OS; pop‑ups still show if notifications are allowed.

📣 I’m not seeing team updates.

Make sure you’re assigned or mentioned on the task. Check the Notifications Center and consider per‑board email alerts on Web/Desktop.

✉️ My board email digests never arrive.

Verify the board’s Notification settings, check Spam/Promotions, and confirm the account email under Profile. Daily digests send at 09:00; weekly at week start. Check Spam/Promotions and make sure you didn’t unsubscribe from Any.do emails.

🧭 Can I use both Daily Push and task reminders?

Yes. Daily Push is a once‑a‑day planning nudge on mobile. Task reminders are separate.
